Pragya Vihar School - Photo Gallery
Located in the village of Bodh Gaya in the state of Bihar in Northern India, the Pragya Vihar school was founded in 1990. It exists to educate children of poor families from the villages that surround Bodh Gaya. The school provides free education for all of the children.
Pragya Vihar School, the land it stands on and all its running expenses are provided primarily by the international community of Buddhists. The school seeks to foster inter-religious understanding as a contribution to the diversity of religious faith in India.
The stupa marks the place of the Buddha's enlightenment. Many pilgrims come to Bodh Gaya from around the world to meditate at this sacred spot.
In 1992, the Pragya Vihar School started as a small bamboo hut and. It is now a large building offering education for more than 500 desperately poor children.
The staff are members of the Christian, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist faiths.
